Supporting Literacy in the Classroom: Making books about everything with practically nothing

Course Code: 26FBB110V

This virtual workshop takes place on Zoom on Saturday, October 17th, from 1PM to 3PM ET.

  • Saturday, October 17th, from 1PM to 3PM ET

Please Note: Registration for this workshop closes on October 4th, at 11:59 pm.

    About the Workshop:

This virtual workshop is taught by CBA instructor Paula Beardell Krieg.

Creating a culture of book making in the classroom can be done with available materials and minimal to zero prep time.  There is no question that children are motivated by making something that feels real, and which they can fill with their own drawings and writing. The small books, which students can fill with classroom content and personal content will turn sheets of paper into keepsakes.

    Required Materials:

    • Teachers should bring along the kinds of paper available to them in their classrooms. Most demonstrations will be done using standard copy paper and composition paper.

    • Commercial (junk mail) catalogue if one is handy.

    • Scissors

    • Pencil

    Optional Materials

    • Glue sticks

    • Stapler

    • Brads

    • Rubber bands
