Participants will practice folding, measurement, and working with needle and thread, while exploring the range of what this simple binding style can do. Artists' books using related techniques will be shown throughout the session. Working across technologies and crafts, she studies and interprets images, objects, and sites to explore the relationships between bodies and cultural artifacts, particularly those that bear witness to the female body. Hakimi’s practice is grounded in contemporary feminist thinking, Arab-Jewish narratives, and their intersection with art and media. Recent exhibitions include Secrist Beach Gallery, Chicago; Hyde Park Art Center, Chicago; the Israel Museum, Jerusalem; the Tel Aviv Museum of Art; and Roots and Culture, Chicago. Hakimi received her MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (2019) and her BSc from Ben-Gurion University, Be’er Sheva (2010).
