While experimenting with collage printing on the Riso we will learn the basics of Riso printing and manipulating prints on the glass, as well as explore the many ways to design printed material for a book. Students will create their own printed page and collaborate on the other printed book elements. We will then bind these prints into the collage-like structure of the woven accordion. Throughout the process we will explore the conceptual nature of the woven accordion, analyze the woven accordions of other artists, and experiment with the different ways to work with this structure and scale for future projects. By the end of the course you will have a small collection of Riso prints and a bound collaborative book for your own collection.

Required Materials:

Collage materials for Riso printing (magazine cuttings, photographs, cut paper and other ephemera work particularly well).

All other materials will be provided by the Center for Book Arts at no additional cost.

About the Instructor

Becca Josephson is a Brooklyn based artist, printmaker, and bookbinder working around the form of the book.
