About the Workshop:
This in person course is taught by instructor Nichole Shinn. Come join us in a game of Exquisite Corpse! Using the rules of exquisite corpse we will manually create prints together in a communal and unpredictable fashion. In the game we will be drawing, collaging, and playing with illustration and imagery to create collaborative prints together. Then in the spirit of repetition, we will be printing our works of art in different variations of 2 color on the risograph machine. We will see how color affects the outcome of the illustrations in a variety of color combinations. If you enjoy an experimental process and are interested in risograph color theory, this workshop is for you!
This is a completely introductory workshop that focuses both on the material and the process with the goal to achieve some fun and unexpected printmaking! There's no experience necessary.
Required Materials:
- favorite drawing utensils
- materials for collage if you have any
- blades or scissors if desired
All other materials will be provided by the Center for Book Arts at no additional cost.
About the Instructor
Nichole Shinn is an interdisciplinary artist and game developer who researches and dissects subcultural fantasies to reflect and build out their own elaborate fictional narratives. Their work explores themes of climate disaster, projected gender essentialism in media, feminine stereotyping in fantasy and utopic dreaming of love in a (un)dying world. They are a co-founder of TXTbooks, an independent publisher of risograph zines. Their publications are held in collections at the Whitney Museum, Metropolitan Museum of Art and SFMoma among others. In 2026 they founded Ultraviolet Softworks, an indie game studio, focused on publishing alternative and experimental games, virtual art, books and related ephemera.
