About the Workshop:
This in-person workshop is taught by CBA instructor Susan Joy Share.
Create a journal or sketchbook with three hefty signatures sewn through the spine of a stiff card-weight paper cover. This long stitch-like book opens flat and is perfect for writing, drawing and collage. We’ll make a sewing card to learn the unique stitching, then reduce and transfer the pattern to our book cover. Templates will allow us to match the signature papers to our spine design. All three signatures are interlaced and sewn at the same time. No previous bookbinding experience required! Note: This versatile binding was inspired by Roger Powell and taught by Hedi Kyle in the early 1990s.
Fun Fact: Susan Joy Share and Hedi Kyle were highly involved with CBA in the 1970s and often exhibited their work together.
Required Materials:
- 3 signatures - 5.5” x 8.5” unfolded, 5.5” x 4.25” folded. These can be made up of text or card weight papers, or a combination of the two. Please have them ready before class and make nice fat signatures (8-10 or more sheets depending on weights)
