About the Workshop:

This in-person course on conceptualizing and making artist's books for all experience levels (though some previous book arts knowledge or experience is encouraged) is taught by artist Maria Veronica San Martin in CBA's bindery and printshop studios.

The workshop begins with a contextual lesson on the book as an art medium, allowing students to draw inspiration for their own projects from published artist's books. Then students will learn two binding structures – dos-a-dos and flag book – that they can choose between for their respective projects.

Subsequent lessons will cover printmaking topics like creating images by monoprint, woodcut, or collage techniques. Finally, students will add text to their project by letterpress printing. San Martin will teach all techniques in the course through hands-on step-by-step demonstrations.

At the end of the course, each participant will have created their own artist's book. The class will conclude with a final critique and discussion of each student's piece.

There are a total of eight spots available in this small-group workshop to ensure the Instructor is able to support each student's work and process. Register now before the class fills up!
