Join us for a new online edition of BookTalk curated by Roni Gross. PRINT-IT, ARTZINES ADVENTURES! presented by Antoine Lefebvre via zoom on Monday, November 10 at 12pm ET.
After completing a PhD about publishing as an alternative artistic practice in 2014, Antoine Lefebvre met a mystery man who encouraged him to follow a lead discovered in his dissertation. Seizing this opportunity, Lefebvre started traveling to art book fairs across the globe looking for zines and interviewing the artists who make them. As the project went on, he came to think that artists may not be the only ones who have something to say about zines and that other people care for zines and organise their conditions of existence. They are bookshop owners, zine fest and art book fair organisers, zine studies researchers, collectors and librarians, when they are not doing all of that at the same time pushed by a Do It Yourself ethos inherited from punks.
After a decade of research upheavals, Lefebvre had amassed an enormous quantity of data and was looking for a way to turn it into a book that would be as captivating as a mystery novel, both in content and form. He worked with the collective Objet Papier to create a one-of-a-kind reading experience, a "choose your own adventure" research publication that embarks the reader on a tailored experience unique for each reader.
