In this workshop we will explore how the structure, materials, and binding of a book can open up new ways of telling family stories, whether through shared memories, or histories that are harder to agree upon. A book has a beginning and an end, and yet it can also work as a non-linear medium, where layers, folds, and materials change what we remember and how we remember it.
Inspired by poetic prompts, will experiment with transparencies, pressure stamping, photocopying, and other simple processes, to create books that explore the complexity of family archives, revealing the connections, gaps, and questions that pass through generations.
Participants are encouraged to bring family photos or other personal materials to incorporate into their book projects. All other materials will be provided. No bookbinding experience necessary.
