The steps between text + image and the steps taken to walk alongside a friend. My dear friend Alana Frances and I collaborated on this book, which collects essays and asemic writing work by both of us. We thought about the process of collaboration across distance, talking on the phone while walking together, and the parallels in our thinking, writing, and artwork brought together in this project.
Walking Backwards into a Room meditates on practices and theories of walking, with attention to the relationship between language and walking. The steps taken between image and text and the steps taken to walk alongside a friend. Through illegible writing, visual works, and essays, this book (re)considers the many forms language can take: as symbols, materials, and objects—and correspondences between collaborators. Walking Backwards into a Room is a collaboration between artists Alana Frances and Ella Rosenblatt.
