Workshop Description

Inspired by sketchbooks and travel journals by artists like Margaret Mee and Dame Barbara Hepworth, Oreades Press is hosting a workshop designed to combat "plant blindness" --- that wash of green you see where there are really tens or hundreds of highly individualized plants ---with instructors Irene Lyla Lee and Rachel TonThat.

In this CBA members-only workshop, we will identify those plants to better understand our environment and recognize it as it changes, staying present and mindful to participate more fully in the world around us. The workshop will start with a memory exercise about Nature. Next, we will look through field guides and maps to identify plants native to places in our memories. Finally, we'll bind saddle stitch booklets that combine imaginative illustrations of those memories interwoven with new information about its plant life.
