Office Hours with Haein Song and Sam Winston

Office Hours is a casual happy hour for Center for Book Arts members where "artists’ bookish people" (artists, collectors, curators, publishers, etc.) gather, get to know one another, and relax. This time we have invited the artists Sam Winston and Haein Song to join us while they are in town.

Sam Winston’s practice is concerned with language not only as a carrier of messages but also as a visual form in and of itself. Initially known for his typography and artists' books, he employs a variety of different approaches including drawing, performance and poetry.

Haein Song is an artist working primarily with books as her medium, and a fellow of Designer Bookbinders. She uses traditional bookbinding techniques to create unique or limited edition books, while employing a variety of printmaking methods (including linocut, drypoint, etching, cyanotype, monoprint and letterpress printing) for artist's books and for the endpapers of the fine bindings. With a strong interest in the physicality of making and understanding the process of making, she explores qualities of transience, fragility, intangibility and absurdity in both the concept and aesthetic of her work.

Sam and Haein live and work in London, UK.

Cocktails, beer, and seltzers are available for purchase in support of CBA and it's always a great time to meet fellow members and talk books and life. This happy hour is from 5:30-7pm on April 7th at Center for Book Arts in the bindery. Want to bring someone along? Members are always welcome to bring friends.
