Founded in 2013 in Mexico City, Gato Negro Ediciones is an independent publishing project focused on creating and sharing books that amplify marginalized voices and perspectives. With a catalog of over 220 titles, their work explores the possibilities of language, memory, and resistance through sustainable and thoughtful publishing practices.

He studied political science at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. Since 2002 he has been working independently in graphic design, specializing in the field of editorial design, publishing and editorial photography. He has worked for different institutions both in Mexico and abroad, such as the Fondo de Cultura Económica -he designed the collections of Poesía, Aula Atlántica, Biblioteca Universitaria de Bolsillo, Ciencia para todos, A la orilla del viento, Clásicos del Fondo, A través del espejo and La Gaceta- the Consejo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes, the Government of Mexico City, the Ministry of Public Education, the Presidency of the Republic, the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, El Colegio de México, the Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, the Casa Refugio Citlaltépetl, the Colegio Nacional, the Comisión Nacional de Libro de Texto Gratuito, UNESCO, the Escuela de Administración Pública de la Ciudad de México, the Museo del Estanquillo and Canal Once, among others.

In recent years he has collaborated with the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México in the editorial development of projects such as 1968-2018 (Premio al Arte Editorial 2018), the Poesía Joven collection (2019) and the Diario de la pandemia (2020).

His work has been recognized with several awards, including the 50 books / 50 covers awarded by the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA); on two occasions the New Horizons awarded by the Bologna Children's Book Fair; the White Ravens from the International Youth Library; the Best Books for Children and Young People Award from the Banco del Libro de Venezuela; and on several occasions the Premio al Arte Editorial awarded by the Cámara Nacional de la Industria Editorial Mexicana (Caniem) and the Premio Quórum.

He has developed projects and given talks and lectures at academic, artistic and publishing institutions such as the Graduate School of Education & Information Studies at UCLA, the Otis College of Art and Design, the University of Illinois College of Architecture, Design, and the Arts (CADA), the California College of the Arts, the Jan Van Eyck Academie, the Frans Masereel Centrum, the Vincent Price Art Museum, Ithaca College and Printed Matter Inc. He is a member of Alliance Graphique Internationale (AGI).

In 2013 he founded the independent publishing project Gato Negro Ediciones, today he has more than 250 titles published.
