Join us on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at 6pm, as we celebrate the new year with the opening of two new exhibitions at Center for Book Arts that explore the radical edges of reading, notation, and the book as an artistic form. Rewriting The World: Isidore Isou and the Lettrist Book, curated by Frédéric Acquaviva and Bill Kartalopoulos, presents a visionary movement born in postwar Paris, where Isidore Isou and his circle reinvented the page as a site for metagraphic invention—collapsing text, image, sound, and symbol into a new total art. Shatter / Chatter: Rosaire Appel, curated by Nicole Kaack turns to the contemporary practice of Rosaire Appel, whose asemic scores, abstract comics, and diagrammatic books unravel the boundaries between looking, listening, and reading. Together, these exhibitions invite us to encounter the book not as a container, but as an evolving terrain of experimentation, dialogue, and possibility. Meet the artists and curators!
